Why The Pumping House Ollerton is Extraordinary for Wedding Videography
The Pumping House in Ollerton holds a very special place in my heart. Not only have I filmed one of my favourite weddings here, but this is also where I collected my Regional Winner award for the East Midlands at The Wedding Industry Awards 2025, the year House of Tattersall also placed in the UK Top 10. This Grade II listed Victorian building on the edge of Sherwood Forest has given me some of my absolute favourite shots, and I'm excited to share why it's such an incredible venue for wedding videography and photography.
Unmatched Diversity for Cinematic Wedding Films
What makes The Pumping House truly exceptional for wedding videography is the sheer diversity of filming locations within one venue. Honestly, the variety here is unmatched in the East Midlands. Every corner offers something different, which means your wedding film will have incredible visual depth and character.
The Engine Hall - This double-height space is the heart of the venue and absolutely breathtaking for wedding films. The impressive scale, combined with natural light flooding through full-length arched windows and a stunning glass ceiling, creates cinematic shots that are simply magical. By day it's elegant and bright; by night it transforms into a vibrant celebration space with completely different energy on film.
The Ollerton Room - Licensed for civil ceremonies with capacity for up to 110 guests, this room features beautiful parquet flooring and original paned windows overlooking the forest. The natural light here is exceptional, and the backdrop of Sherwood Forest creates romantic, timeless ceremony footage.
The Conservatory Room - Perfect for drinks receptions and canapés, this bright, welcoming space offers a different aesthetic again. The mezzanine above provides stunning elevated shots looking down into the Engine Hall below, these panoramic angles are some of my favourite shots to capture.
The Grounds - Set in three acres of ancient Sherwood Forest woodland, the outdoor spaces are absolutely incredible for wedding videography. From drinks on the lawn to romantic couple portraits among the trees, the forest setting provides that quintessential English countryside backdrop that looks stunning in every season.
The Iconic Exterior - The red brick Victorian frontage with its towering chimney is instantly recognisable and provides dramatic establishing shots for your wedding film. The historic architecture combined with the forest setting creates a unique visual identity.
Where My Favourite Shots Happened
I'm not exaggerating when I say some of my favourite wedding videography shots of all time happened at The Pumping House. The combination of:
- Natural light streaming through those magnificent arched windows
- The double-height Engine Hall creating dramatic vertical compositions
- The ancient woodland providing dappled forest light
- The Victorian industrial architecture offering texture and character
- The glass ceiling creating unique overhead lighting opportunities
All of these elements come together to create shots that are simply breathtaking. The diversity means I can capture completely different looks and moods throughout your day, keeping your wedding film visually engaging from start to finish.
Perfect Capacity for Comprehensive Coverage
The Ollerton Room accommodates up to 110 guests for ceremonies, which is ideal for wedding videography. This capacity allows for:
- Intimate enough to capture genuine emotions and reactions
- Large enough for grand celebrations with energy and atmosphere
- Clear audio for vows and speeches without echo in oversized spaces
- Comprehensive coverage without needing multiple videographers
The Engine Hall can host larger receptions, giving you flexibility for your guest list while maintaining that personal, authentic feel that translates beautifully on film.
A Venue That Celebrates Individuality
What I love about filming at The Pumping House is their "your day, your way" approach. No two weddings here are the same, which means every wedding film I create here is unique. Unlike venues with strict styling rules, The Pumping House gives couples complete flexibility to bring their vision to life.
This freedom extends to suppliers too, you can bring your own, or choose from their trusted list. For wedding videography, this flexibility means I can work seamlessly with your chosen photographer and other suppliers to capture your day exactly as you've envisioned it.
Natural Light That Elevates Wedding Films
The natural light at The Pumping House is honestly exceptional. Those full-length arched windows and the stunning glass ceiling in the Engine Hall create lighting conditions that wedding videographers and photographers dream about.
Throughout the day, the light changes and moves through the spaces, creating different moods and atmospheres that I can capture in your wedding film. From soft morning light during preparations to golden hour shots in the forest, the venue works beautifully with natural light in every season.
Historic Charm Meets Modern Comfort
Founded in 1909 and beautifully restored for 21st-century celebrations, The Pumping House offers the perfect blend of historic character and modern facilities. For wedding videography, this combination is gold:
- Original Victorian features provide authentic period details
- Modern restoration ensures excellent acoustics for audio recording
- Contemporary fittings blend seamlessly with historic charm
- The result: wedding films that feel both timeless and current
Onsite Accommodation for Extended Coverage
The Pumping House offers stunning onsite accommodation including five double rooms, four family suites, and a luxurious Bridal Suite. This is brilliant for wedding videography because:
- I can capture relaxed morning preparations in beautiful surroundings
- The Bridal Suite provides an elegant setting for getting-ready footage
- Guests staying onsite create natural, candid moments throughout the day
- The Edwardian charm and original features add character to preparation shots
Sherwood Forest Setting for Romantic Couple Portraits
Being on the edge of Sherwood Forest is a massive advantage for wedding films. The ancient woodland provides:
- Romantic forest backdrops for couple portraits
- Dappled natural light filtering through the trees
- Seasonal variety: spring blooms, summer greenery, autumn colours, winter atmosphere
- Drone footage opportunities showcasing the forest setting (weather and airspace permitting)
- Unique Nottinghamshire character that sets your film apart
Award-Winning Venue, Award-Winning Films
As the venue where I collected my East Midlands Regional Winner award, The Pumping House will always be special to me. But beyond personal sentiment, this venue consistently delivers the diversity, lighting, and character that create award-worthy wedding films.
The combination of Victorian industrial architecture, Sherwood Forest setting, and exceptional natural light means every wedding I film here has the potential to be extraordinary.
Ideal for Nottinghamshire & East Midlands Couples
Located in Ollerton, Newark, The Pumping House is perfectly positioned for couples across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and the wider East Midlands. The Sherwood Forest location provides that quintessential Nottinghamshire character while being easily accessible for guests.
Why Videographers and Photographers Love This Venue
I've worked alongside numerous wedding photographers at The Pumping House, and the venue works brilliantly for both disciplines. The variety of spaces, exceptional natural light, and generous capacity mean we can capture every angle without interfering with each other's work.
The venue's flexibility and "no two weddings are the same" philosophy also means your wedding film will be uniquely yours, not a cookie-cutter version of every other wedding filmed there.
